Mount Magazine's International Butterfly Festival
The 1998 International Butterfly Festival was held on August 1-3. For information on next year's festival, you may call the Paris, Arkansas Chamber of Commerce at 1-501-963-2244.
The Mt. Magazine Butterfly festival was held the first weekend in August. It was sponsored by the Paris, Arkansas Chamber of Commerce and several local businesses. It was inspired by the research of the world renowned Gary Noel Ross, Ph.D. Lepidopterist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.. For the past 6 years or so, Dr. Ross has studied the butterflies of Mt. Magazine and has done his research on the life cycle of the Diana Fritillary. The Diana Fritillary, only rarely seen in other states, is abundant atop Mt. Magazine. Arkansas has about 127 species of butterflies; of these 127 species, 91 species are abundant atop Mt. Magazine, which makes it such a unique place for butterfly enthusiasts.
The Festival's Schedule included the following:
Several Paris businesses hosted parts of the festival. For more information about Paris, Arkansas, Logan County, or Mt. Magazine, visit the Paris web site at http://www.paris-ar.com or e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
